About the authors

Dirceu Alencar Velloso

Dirceu Alencar Velloso was one of the biggest names in Brazilian civil engineering, a reference in foundations engineering, with fifty years dedicated to professional and academic life. He received in 2006 the title of emeritus professor at Polytechnic School of Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, in posthumous honor.

Francisco R. Lopes

Francisco R. Lopes is a consecrated geotechnical engineer and PhD from University of London, with solid knowledge of Structural Calculation. He is currently a full professor at Federal University of Rio de Janeiro.
