About the authors

Nilson Gandolfi

Nilson Gandolfi is a geologist graduated from University of São Paulo (USP) and holds a PhD (1968) in Geotechnics from USP at São Carlos, where he has also been a Full Professor since 1976. In his academic and professional career he has been dedicating himself to Engineering and Environmental Geology, in addition to exercising a leadership role, acting as scientific advisor to CNPq, CAPES, FAPESP and FINEP, among others.

Lázaro V. Zuquette

Lázaro V. Zuquette is a geologist graduated from Federal Rural University of Rio de Janeiro and holds a PhD (1987) in Geotechnics from USP at São Carlos, where he has also been a “livre-docente” professor since 1993. His academic career is based on the development of geotechnical cartography and environmental geotechnics, with innovative methodologies that have earned him recognition.
