Aluísio Pardo Canholi

Aluísio Canholi is the engineer responsible for introducing the urban detention reservoirs – popularly known as “big swimming pools”- to Brazil  and the man in charge of one of the major planning works ever carried out in the country: the Macro-drainage Plan of  the Tietê river upper basin, one of the most troublesome regions of the world when it comes to water resources.

“Urban Drainage and Flood Control” is a unique technical contribution to the field of large cities drainage. It introduces new concepts of design, reviews classic concepts of hydraulic works dimensioning in Sanitary Engineering, and proposes new unconventional structural measures for draining in large cities.

Aluísio Pardo Canholi is director of Hidrostudio Engenharia, a company specialized in urban drainage projects. He is a civil engineer and holds a Master’s degree and a PhD in Engineering from Polytechnic School of the University of São Paulo. He has been working in the area of water resources, drainage and hydraulic projects for 30 years.
